The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) has been established by the Government of Assam by way of enactment of the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court is the Chancellor of the University. NLUJAA promotes and makes available modern legal education and research facilities to students and scholars drawn from across the country, including the North East, coming from different socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. The University has eighteen study and research centers in which Child Rights Center is conducting many events in collaboration with UNICEF. Center for Environment Law is launching online certificate course on environment law and also building international collaboration. Other centers have commenced their activities with new orientation.

The University has shifted to the new campus situated in a beautiful land scape facing Brahmaputra River in a sprawling 50 acres of land. Academic Block, Administrative Block, Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels with excellent modern facilities are made available by a generous grant of the Government of Assam.


Course


B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Course 
The University offers the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Course where under Social Sciences subjects like Economics, History, Political Science and Sociology and an English language subject are integrated with the Law subjects in the first two years of study. However, from the third year, the Course Curriculum primarily comprises of Law subjects. All subjects are compulsory in the first three years of study. However, in the fourth and fifth years, the students are offered optional subjects in the form of five different streams, namely, Business and Intellectual Property Law; Constitutional Law and Administrative Law; Consumer Protection and Environmental Law; Criminal Law and Criminology; and International Law and Human Rights.

One Year LL.M. (Master of Laws) Degree Programme
The University offers One Year LL.M. (Master of Laws) Degree Programme. Students admitted to One Year LL.M. Degree Programme at National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam have to complete three mandatory papers and six elective papers and a dissertation in order to complete the programme. Student who opts for minimum four out of six electives in a particular specialisation will secure an LL.M. in that specialisation whereas the student, who do not make such an option and/or opt for papers from diverse specialisations or from the general pool, will be awarded LL.M. (General).

Library


National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam Library is a gateway to quality education and research in the field of law, social sciences and humanities. The NLUJAA Library endeavors to facilitate the legal society by providing right information to right users at the right time. The University library has approximately twenty thousand print collections in the field of law and allied subjects. Over the years, the library has procured various Law Journals, both print and electronic. On the top floor of the Administrative building the Library is housed as a temporary measure and will be shifted to an independent customized building under construction soon after its completion. The state of the art library building will be housed in a three magnificent storied building spreading across a wide area of 50,000 sq.ft approx.
