National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi

National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) was established by Act No. 4 of Jharkhand State Assembly in 2010. The University was subsequently recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 under section 22 of the UGC Act of 1956. At present, the University has more than 500 students on roll in the undergraduate course. The University has been included as member of the CLAT w.e.f. CLAT 2012. At the undergraduate level, the University offers Five-year Integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) degree Program which consists of ten semesters.

The process for admitting students to Integrated LL.M.-Ph.D. of three years duration and Ph.D. of two years duration started in August 2011 and classes for the same commenced in January 2012. With modest beginning, the University is all set to compete with global academic standards with deftly crafted teaching-learning methodology. NUSRL endeavours to share the global opportunity in law as well as legal discipline.


B.A. (LL.B.) programme

The University offers unique five year integrated undergraduate educational programme of B.A. LL.B.(Hons.), the main objective of which is to provide extensive knowledge base to the students of law. In the B.A. (LL.B.) programme offered by the University, apart from the core law subjects, a student is also given the opportunity to learn the humanities subjects as well which  includes subjects such as Philosophy, Sociology, Economics, History and English. Apart from this, compulsory Court Room Exercise from the very 1st semester of the Five Year course forms a vital part in the curriculum of the University as it helps the students to hone their mooting skills and learn court room etiquettes. Currently, the University offers Honors specialization in five areas, namely Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Law, Intellectual Property Rights and International Public Law and is going to increase the number of specializations offered by it in the B.A.(LL.B.) programme, in the coming years.


The University has a rich library with a wide range of books that include legal classics as well as books on social science. The library also subscribes to law journals and reviews of repute such as The Economic & Political Weekly, The Journal of The Indian Law Institute, The Patents and Trade Marks Cases along with back volume CD, Taxman Journals, All India Reporter, Indian Journal of Public Administration, weekly subscription of India Today, The Week, Time, Outlook, Frontline (fortnightly) and Sports Star, etc.

The NUSRL library also subscribes to valuable E-resource databases. Online services like Manupatra, SCC Online, WestLaw-India, Hein Online and Jstor are always just a click away. The University from time to time arranges for training sessions to make the students comfortable with the E-resources.


NUSRL provides the best infrastructure to its students. The campus has the latest state-of-the-art facilities that help the students learn all the fundamentals in a comfortable and composed manner.
