Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is one of the latest of the National Law Schools established in India. Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai aims to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development, to develop in the students and research scholars, a sense of responsibility, to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and the like; to organize lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences to promote efficient instruments of social development.
For the Academic Year 2018-19, admission to undergraduate programme – 5 year integrated B.A. LL.B (Hons.) and one year LL.M at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is held through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) on merit basis. B.A., LL.B (Hons.) Programme
The University is in the process of extending its academic programmes in accordance with the changing paradigm of educational needs. The programmes are being designed to maximize legal outreach and market potential of global economy in general and of Mumbai in particular. The five year integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Programme offered by the University is designed in accordance with the approved norms of the Bar Council of India, integrating at the same time innovative course modules evolved by the faculty which embraces the best practices of premier centres of legal education.
The University offers one year integrated LL.M course in Corporate and Commercial Laws. The course is designed in accordance with University Grant Commission 2012 guidelines. Graduate Legal Studies has been established by
MNLU Mumbai which includes a team teachers to guide students. The pedagogy of the course involves a combination of regular classes and concurrent research.
Intake and Seats:- The total intake to the under graduate (Hons.) programme is 50 (Fifty) and that of LL.M is 20 (Twenty) students. All these are subject to Maharashtra State Reservation Norms by the Executive Council. The University reserves the right to operate supernumerary seats for B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) programme as follows: 10 (Ten) supernumerary seats under Foreign National/NRI/NRI Sponsored category. 2 (Two) seats for permanent resident of Jammu & Kashmir in accordance with the UGC directives.
The MNLU Mumbai has provided hostel facility located across the road from the academic campus (about 200 meters). A portion of CETTM international hostel has been leased for the purpose. The residential blocks include adequately furnished and spacious double sharing hostel rooms with WI-FI connectivity every room has attached washroom and a spacious balcony.
The MNLU library strives to become the knowledge hub and centre for learning by disseminating information to its users, assisting in curriculum development and research activities to recreate and record knowledge. The air conditioned university library has more than 3600 books and over 700 back volume journals / Law Reports, including Supreme Court Cases, All England Law Reports, The Law Reports Appeal Cases, Weekly law Reports, Halsbury Laws of England, Manuals, Commentaries, Indian Journal of International Law, American International Law Cases, All India Reporter, Bank CLR etc. Library has a subscription of various newspapers and magazines in three different languages, i.e., English, Hindi and Marathi. The resources of the library are being upgraded day by day. The MNLU library offers the reading room services, Circulation (issue/return/re-issue) of books services, reference services and referral services. The university endeavours to enhance the availability of the resources available to it and therefore is in process of procuring more e – resources for the access of the students.
