“Dharma Sansthapanartham” (for the sake of establishing the primacy of the laws of eternal values) is the motto of Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, established by the Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh, Act (Act No. 10 of 2003).
HNLU has a team of competent, dedicated and internationally trained faculty members to advance professional knowledge to the students. The student-teacher ratio is one of the best in the country. International standards are maintained in designing and teaching the courses and the student is shaped
completely into a professional during his stay at the University. HNLU has created a record by placing its students through the campus recruitment programme.
For creating high quality academic ambience and enable its students towards perfection in their academic endeavour, the University offers exhaustive, diverse and cross-functional curriculum as well as optional/honours courses at graduate and postgraduate levels. Rigorous coursework helps in equipping the students with basic knowledge of law, requisite skills and a thorough understanding of the legal system operating in specific social, economic and political contexts to meet the demands of emerging market and society.
Courses
B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
Admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Honours) Program is exclusively based on the performance of the candidate in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, in order to be eligible to appear in CLAT, a candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates).
LL.M.
HNLU offers a one-year LL.M. Program spread over three trimesters. The LL.M. program is designed to inculcate research skills and analytical abilities in students. In addition to classroom training imparted through innovative teaching methods, the LL.M. Program is focused on self-learning and research conducted by the students under the guidance of the faculty members. Admission to the LL.M. Program is exclusively based on the performance of the candidate in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
However, in order to be eligible to appear in CLAT, a candidate should have obtained a LL.B./B.L.
Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of SC and ST candidates).
Ph.D.
Ph.D. Program in Law has commenced at HNLU w.e.f. academic session 2014-15 wherein admission of scholars is made strictly on the basis of admission test conducted by the University separately. The intake to Ph.D. program is 30. The Ph.D. (Law) programme is a full-time residential programme. The Ph.D. (Law) scholars are required to be present in the University and their presence is duly recorded in the University library. This shall not be less than 70% of the entire working days of the University in an Academic Year.
Law Library
The Law Library is an integral division of the HNLU. The library of the HNLU is considered as a laboratory of a scientific institute, where the apparatus for the law students are the classic law books, case law reports and journals that are available in full sets. The students perform legal research like experiments to augment their studies by using these equipments. The HNLU in view of its aims and objectives has planned out for a separate and spacious library in its present premises and has started enriching the same, meeting the requirements of the curriculum. As of now it has excellent collection of text books, reference books and law reports covering a wide range of general and special subjects.
