Founded in 1953 as part of Villanova University, Villanova Law has educated more than 22,000 lawyers who have taken their place in the profession. At Villanova Law, our broad-based legal education is grounded in academic rigor; practical, hands-on training; and a foundation in business that primes graduates for diverse and rewarding legal careers. Wherever your interests may lie-international law, corporate law, intellectual property law or public interest law—you will find programs that will prepare you for the future.

Academics Programs

Juris Doctor
In their first year of study, students are grounded in the study of the law with six doctrinal courses and one elective course. Students can tailor their courses to meet their particular area of interest in their second and third years of study. Students can further customize their education through a dual degree, concentration or by taking courses in 15 varied focus areas of study. Dual degrees and concentrations can be completed within three years of study alongside the JD.

J.D./LL.M. in International Studies
Whether you are interested in business law, tax, human rights, immigration, family law or other areas, learning about other countries’ laws and the international practice of law is beneficial to a career in any industry and practice.  No matter where you practice law—abroad or in the United States – you will deal with issues that require the knowledge to identify and solve issues involving international or comparative law.
While studying for your JD, you can also earn a Master’s Degree in Law in International Studies (LLM) from a host university abroad, all within three years. You will receive rigorous training and preparation at one of our partner schools, while being fully immersed in the vibrant culture of your host institution. You’ll learn from and with faculty and students from all over the world, returning with the knowledge and cultural aptitude to succeed in your career.

J.D./ LL.M. in Taxation
The JD/LLM program provides students with a broad based and advanced skill set in taxation, which will create employment opportunities for students interested in a career in Tax Law.

Participating in the JD/LLM program will allow students to take Graduate Tax Program courses prior to the fall on-campus-interview sessions, thereby enhancing the prospects for tax related summer internships or full time offers. In addition, the JD/LLM program offers summer semester evening courses, which JD/LLM students can attend without interfering with summer internships or employment.

J.D./M.B.A
Villanova’s JD/MBA degree program, conducted jointly by the Charles Widger School of Law and Villanova School of Business, is designed to give students a strong foundation in both business and the law, providing them with a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Students gain the analytical and quantitative skills necessary to solve the complex challenges they will face in the workplace. Integrating an MBA with a JD can help students understand the intricacies and governance of business and law, enhancing their practice.

J.D./M.P.A
The JD/MPA degree provides graduates with the values, roles, skills and practices that will help them become competent legal professionals who are also ethical, intelligent, inclusive and creative public service leaders. Pursuing a JD/MPA degree sets graduates apart and gives them an advantage when pursuing careers in competitive federal, state or local government agencies, nonprofit or quasi-governmental organizations and the private sector
