The School of Law at the University of Surrey provides a stimulating and supportive environment for undergraduate and postgraduate study. Members of the academic staff have international reputations for research and are experienced legal practitioners, providing consultancy to law firms, governments, non-governmental organisations and businesses around the world. Enjoying excellent links with local, national and international legal communities, the School has particular expertise in environmental law, corporate and commercial law, anti-corruption law, criminal law, public law, European law and international law. The School is also renowned for offering students the chance to gain practical legal experience through a pioneering Professional Training placement programme, which contributes to over 95 per cent of the students being in work or further education six months after graduation. The overwhelming majority of placements are paid and have offered students the chance to work in such prestigious organisations as the European Parliament, Slater and Gordon Lawyers, the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lloyds Banking Group and the House of Commons.
LL.B. Law Hons.
Focusing on the law of England and Wales as affected by European and international law, one will be schooled in the core elements of legal understanding. While one will spend time identifying current legal rules and principles, the programmes are a far cry from the memorisation of dry legal detail.
Law with Criminology LL.B. (Hons.)
This programme combines the expertise of the School of Law with the internationally recognised research and teaching strengths of the University’s Department of Sociology, offering the chance to develop an understanding of the law and legal principles whilst also studying advanced areas of criminology.
Law with International Studies LL.B. (Hons.)
The International Studies pathway offers the opportunity to study both core law subjects and international politics, developing a political perspective on law as a body of rules.
Law Senior Status LL.B. (Hons.)
The Senior Status LL.B. is a graduate entry LL.B. that allows you to gain a law qualifying degree in just two years of study. The Senior Status LL.B. gives a solid legal education for the future practice of law. The first undergraduate degree can be in any area of study. This degree is useful for anyone who is interested in gaining a law qualifying degree in two years and already possesses an undergraduate degree.
This programme is the School of Law’s flagship postgraduate course, providing a comprehensive LL.M. that incorporates a wide range of modules and allows you to specialise in the areas of most interest and importance to you and your career.
International Law LL.M.
Enables to understand, examine and apply fundamental concepts of international law, this programme benefits from the presence of research centres such as the Surrey International Law Centre and the Surrey European Law Unit, both of which are based in the School of Law.
International Commercial Law LL.M.
This programme enables to understand, examine and apply fundamental concepts of international commercial law, benefiting from the presence of the Surrey International Law Centre, based in the School of Law.
Providing a comprehensive education in Law research methods, this programme is designed for students with an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Law, or other relevant discipline. It will prepare students to undertake high-quality research.
