Professor Tushar Kanti Saha, a jurist of international fame and a former Professor of Law and Head (Academic) of Hidayatullah National Law University, is the first and serving Vice-Chancellor of Starford International University at Juba, the capital of a fledgling new nation, South Sudan. Throughout from the School till the University level, Professor Saha ranked first in order of merit earning University Merit Scholarship. He did his legal studies in the University of London and is a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn, London called in 1979. He had been a recipient of Lady Edwina Mountbatten Award for Commonwealth Students. Prof. Saha received Ph.D. in Law from the University of Calcutta in 1999 and taught in his alma matter from 1989-1997. Prof. Saha had a stint at the India’s first Business School in Calcutta, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management from 1997-1999. Prof. Saha executed a huge World Bank Evaluation Project on Health Sector Reforms in West Bengal during this period and then shifted to Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. During his short tenure he published widely and was invited to deliver ‘Annual Theme Lecture’ of the Institute throughout its branches all over India in 2001. Prof. Saha became the founding Director of the Law School of the University of Asmara in 2002 and joined Addis Ababa University as Professor of Law in 2003. He has subsequently served as Professor of Law at the Hidayatullah National University, University of Dar-es-Salaam and National University of Lesotho and Kenyatta University before joining as the Vice-Chancellor of the Starford International University at Juba w.e.f 1st June, 2016. He represented the Hidayatullah National Law University in the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference with the Chief Justice of India in 2005 and served on the panel of Oral Judges for 14th International Environmental Law Conference held at the Stetson University, Tampa, Florida in the United States. Prof. Saha has addressed more than 100 national and international conferences and visited more than 80 countries on academic mission. Prof. Saha has written eight sole-authored textbooks and published about 100 papers nationally and internationally. His book on ‘Legal Methods’ published by Universal-LexisNexis has become bestseller and popular among the students of various National Law Schools in India including others in home and abroad.
