Justice Ajai Lamba was born on 21st September 1958 at Abohar, Punjab. Graduated with Honours Degree in English from Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh and completed the LL.B. Course from Punjab University, Chandigarh. Enrolled as an Advocate in 1981. Practiced in the Punjab and Haryana High Court (“P&H High Court”), Central Administrative Tribunal, Railway Claims Tribunal and State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Specialized in Criminal and Civil Laws; conducted cases relating to Criminal, Civil, Revenue, Constitutional, Labour, Company and Service Laws; worked as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel in the P&H High Court; counsel assisting “Liberhan Commission of Enquiry”; “Public Prosecutor” for the Union Territory of Chandigarh for the P&H High Court since 1992-93 till the time of elevation; Legal Advisor to the Haryana Pollution Control Board and Haryana Financial Corporation; represented the “Union Public Service Commission” and “Haryana Public Service Commission” in the P&H High Court.
Elevated as a Judge of P&H High Court on 22nd March 2006. Transferred to Allahabad High Court w.e.f. 9th December 2011. Appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court w.e.f. 07th October 2019.
