Rethinking Palkhivala

The latest publication Rethinking Palkhivala – Centenary Commemorative Volume edited by Maj. Gen. Nilendra Kumar was virtually released by the Hon’ble Mr Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge, Supreme Court of India on 6 March 2021 from 4:30 pm, at a virtual event. Ms Zia Mody, Founder – AZB & Partners; Mr Arvind P Datar, Senior Advocate and Mr Darius J Khambata, Senior Advocate also graced the occasion with their presence and participation. Ms Prerna Priyadarshni, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court was the compere for the event. The virtual event was live streamed on LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube for the audience.

The editor of the publication, Maj. Gen. Nilendra Kumar, shared the journey of conceptualising the year-long birth centenary celebrations in the honour of the late Shri Nani A Palkhivala, which culminated in this publication chronicling the lectures, panel discussions and debate organized as well as articles contributed by stalwarts in the fields of law, economics, and governance.

Sharing his views on the publication and the legend Shri Nani A Palkhivala, Hon’ble Mr Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said, “…this book therefore suitably titled, Rethinking Palkhivala, is a commendable undertaking in keeping the spirit, legacy, and memory of a towering public personality alive…”
Ms Zia Mody, while speaking on the occasion, said that, “…the one thing that young lawyers in the profession should know about Mr Palkhivala and where we can all emulate him, which is the power of perseverance.” She also shared her personal experience with Mr Palkhivala and his ethos talking about “his inability to do anything that was less than perfect.”
Having been associated with the Birth Centenary Celebrations organised by the Lex Consilium Foundation, Mr Arvind P Datar in his address emphasised on what lessons young lawyers can learn from legend Shri Nani Palkhivala including that “Disadvantages don’t really matter….Success is not accidental…

Mr Darius J Khambata expressed his thoughts on the continued relevance of the life, work, and legacy of the late Shri Nani A Palkhivala in modern India “…his impact not only on law, taxation, economics, but also on the very fabric of Indian democracy was both meteoric and is indelible…”
On behalf of Oakbridge Publishing, Mr Vikesh Dhyani, Co-founder and Director, shared his experience of being associated with the book from the script to the final printed volume and said, “…As publishers we always look out for subjects and authors that are able to take the discourse on a particular area of law forward from where it stands today. This new book is another small step in the same direction…”

The virtual release was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Shubhranshu Padhi, Advocate on Record, thanking all the dignitaries, participants, and the partners for the event including the Lex Consilium Foundation and Lawyered, the Strategic Technology Partner.
