The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University

The University was named after the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and University Grants Commission (UGC). The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Common Wealth Universities, U.K. and Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. The University offers legal education at its campus as well as through eight affiliated colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu located at Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Chengalpattu, Vellore and Salem.


Courses


B.A.LL.B. [Hons.]  (Five Years Degree Course)
We offers B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree course is of five years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.

Intake & Eligibility: – The number of students to be admitted to the 5 Year B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Degree Course shall be 180* (inclusive of NRI). All efforts will be taken to pay individual attention on every student. A candidate should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination recognized by the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai and should have secured not less than 70% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects.  The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects.  In case of students who make a claim under the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) category, they should have secured not less than 60% in the qualifying examination.

A candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on 1st June 2015, (i.e. should have been born on or after 01.06.1994). For candidates belonging to SC/ST Communities, No Age Limit.“

B.Com. LL.B. [Hons.] (Five Years Degree Course)
We introduced B.Com.LL.B. [Hons.] Degree Course in the academic year 2013-2014. The duration of the course is for five years. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.

Intake & Eligibility: – The number of students to be admitted to the 5 Year B.Com.LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Course shall be 120 (inclusive of NRI). All efforts will be taken to pay individual attention on every student. Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) with Commerce group subjects or equivalent examination with relevant subjects alone are eligible to apply. They should have secured not less than 70% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

In case of students, who make a claim under the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) category, they should have secured not less than 60% in the qualifying examination.

Out of the total number of seats, 15% has been earmarked for NRI candidates.

B.B.A.LL.B. [HONS.] (Five Years Degree Course)
The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is introducing B.B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree Course from this academic year 2015-2016. The duration of the course is for five years. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. B.B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.

B.C.A.LL.B. [HONS.] (Five Years Degree Course)
The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is introducing B.C.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree Course, from this academic year 2015-2016. The duration of the course is for five years. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. B.C.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.

LL.B.[HONS.] (Three Years Degree Course)
LL.B.[Hons] Degree Course is of three years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. On successful completion of the course, LL.B (Hons.) degree will be awarded.

Eligibility: – The candidates should have passed any degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.B.A./ B.E./B.Tech./M.B.B.S./B.Pharm/other graduates in general) and should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 55% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects. Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidate should have secured a minimum of 55% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

Master of Law – LL.M (1 Year)
The School of Excellence in Law offers Post-Graduate Courses (Regular Programmes) leading to two year LL.M. Degrees, under CBCS pattern, in the following Nine Branches:

  • Department of International Law and Organization Branch IV: International Law and Organization

  • Department of Criminal Law Branch VI: Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration
  • Department of Human Rights and Duties Education/Centre for Human Rights Branch VII: Human Rights and Duties Education
  • Department of Labour Law & Administrative Law Branch VIII: Labour Law & Administrative Law
  • Department of Taxation In Law Branch IX: Taxation In Law

Intake and Reservation:
The number of students to be admitted in each branch of the LL.M. Degree Course is limited to 20. For each of the branches, the reservation will be based on the State Reservation Policy.

Eligibility: – The general eligibility condition for admission to Master‟s Programme is through formal education as per the UGC Regulations 2001. Candidates who have successfully completed a three year / five year under-graduate degree course in Law conducted by the University or equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission to a Master’s Degree programme in any of the LL.M. courses. Candidate should have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks under New Regulations [40% under Old Regulations]. Candidates who are awaiting results may also apply


Law Library


Library is the heart of any academic institution and plays an key role in all academic activities and more so in law institutions as well as in law firms. Keeping in this mind, the library has been planned and is being developed by a team of qualified professional library staff and guided by the Library Council. It has a collection of over 19,000 volumes covering a wide range of general and special law subjects consisting of text books, reference books, back volumes of journals and reports etc.,.
The library has adopted an open access system so as to facilitate readers to have easy access and retrieval of library and information resources. To assist the students and research scholars in locating literature as well as information in their areas of research, general reference, current awareness and computerized catalogue have been introduced.
