Gujarat National Law University (GNLU)

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is the statutory university established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) (2f and 12B). The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and member of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and International Association of Law Schools (IALS) . The University functions as nodal agency to uplift legal education in the State of Gujarat.

The ethos of imparting education in Gujarat National Law University comprises a mutual endeavour of the Faculty and the students who become part of the august family after clearing the hurdle of a rigorous and strenuous selection procedure. The University has been in the process of striving for academic and professional excellence in the field of legal studies in the country. The University became functional from the year 2004. The teaching methodology and the student response to it can be safely summarized as being par excellence. The student fraternity has won laurels in the various spheres of national and international moot court competitions, paper presentations and various cultural activities. GNLU strives for an all-round and inter-disciplinary academic excellence in sync with the other National Law Schools of the country.

Academic Programmes

Five Years BA/BCom/BBA/BSc/BSW LL.B. (Hons.)
Successful clearance of HSC/lntermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST). Candidate appearing in the qualifying examination can appear provisionally, subject to the production of necessary qualification papers before or at the time of admission.

One Year LL.M.
LL.B. degree/equivalent degree in law from a recognized University, with not less than 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST students). Candidate appearing in the qualifying examination can appear provisionally, subject to the production of necessary qualification papers before or at the time of admission.


Gujarat National Law University is popular for its library, in addition to infrastructure, teaching and research excellence. The library shares equally in making GNLU a world-class law university. It is spread over four-floors with seating capacity for 300 readers at a time. The library has a vast collection of more than 35,000 volumes of books, law reports and subscribes 150 current journals, newspapers, reference books and e-books. The GNLU library has huge resources in the field of law and other allied subjects such as Management, Sociology, Science & Technology, History, Economics, and English Literature.

The library occupies the largest wing in the administrative building. It provides sufficient space for physical and digital access of the library resources. It provides a comfortable, inviting facility for users. The library is fully air conditioned to create an ambience conducive to productive reading and research. It offers an environment that supports creativity, flexibility and collaboration. The library has enough space for reading, research, reference and interaction. It also has special ‘discussion rooms’ that are made available for group discussions.

Moot Court

Gujarat National Law University strives to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of law by conducting various moot court and client counselling activities on a semester basis. The Moot Court Committee is entrusted with the responsibility of facilitating and administering such exercises through its rigorous qualifying mechanism involving two rounds of mooting.
