Professor K.D. Gaur

Professor K.D. Gaur, Professor Emeritus, New Law College, BharatiVidyapeeth University, Pune, former Vice-Chancellor, Professor and Head, Post-Graduate Department of Law, Utkal University, Bhubneshwar and former Director Research (Law) and Founder Director, Amity Law School, Lucknow, is a distinguished  scholar  and  jurist  of  international  repute.

Professor Gaur has had an outstanding career with an LL.M. (Gold Medal) from Allahabad University and Ph.D and LL.D. from the University of London. He has worked at the Indian Law Institute, the law faculties of Meerut, Rajasthan, Benaras Hindu University and Utkal University in India; Visiting Fellow, Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London (1969-70); Fulbright Visiting Professor, U.S.A. (1979-80); Visiting Professor, Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Private Law, Hamburg and Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law, Freiburg, Germany (1984, 1986 and 2006); Visiting Professor, U.S.S.R. National Academy of Science, Moscow (1988); Visiting Professor, University of Malaya, Kualalumpur (1990-1992) and Visiting Professor, International University of Malaysia (1993-1995); Visiting Professor University of Pondicherry (1996); U.G.C. Emeritus and Visiting Professor, University of Lucknow, (1998-2000, and 2001 to 2003) and Director, Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies, GGSIP University, Delhi (2001) etc.

Professor Gaur has been taking keen interest in Legal Education and Legal Aid Programme in the country. He has been member of the Law Revision Committee and Legal Aid and Advice Board of the State of Orissa; Member, Standing Advisory Committee and Law Panel of the University Grants Commission; Member, Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India; Member, Editorial Board of the Encyclopedia of Social Sciences (I.C.S.S.R); Member, Common Law Exchange Society, California, U.S.A.; Expert Member, Union Public Service Commission and State Service Commissions, Universities and various other bodies.

Professor Gaur has widely travelled and has made a great contribution to the academia through his lectures, seminars, conferences in reputed Law schools, institutes and centers of higher learning in India and abroad. He has to his credit authorship of more than two hundred articles and papers in various reputed national and international journals and periodicals besides classic books on Law of International Telecommunications in India (Nomos Verlagehessellsehaft, Germany); Criminal Law: Cases and Materials (2013) (LexisNexis); Commentary on the Indian Penal Code (2013) (Universal Law Publishing Co. Pvt. Ltd.); Tax Offences, Black Money and the law; Criminal Law, Criminology and Criminal Administration (2013); Law and Society in Modern India; Criminal Law and Criminology (2002) (Deep and Deep Publications). Professor Gaur has also co-authored a number of books and monographs. A number of papers and articles of Professor Gaur have been translated in German and other foreign languages.

In recognition of his original contributions of very high standard in various fields of law, professional achievements and service to the community, Professor Gaur was elected Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 1971,  appointed National Lecturer in Law by the University Grants Commission in 1982 and selected Man of the Year 1998 and was awarded commemorative Gold Medal for contribution to the community and professional achievements by the American Biographical Institute, United States. Professor Gaur is the First Indian to have been awarded Ph.D. and the prestigious Degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) by the University of London in 2001.
