Salman Khurshid (born January 1, 1953) is an Indian politician belonging to the Indian National Congress, a lawyer, and a writer elected from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency. He studied B.A. (English and Jurisprudence), M.A., B.C.L. Educated at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, U.K. He belongs to Farrukhabad. He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha (1991–1996) from the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency, thereafter starting as Union Deputy Minister, Commerce in June 1991, he remained Union Minister of State, External Affairs (January 1993-June 1996).
He has been deeply involved in writing and acting in plays since his student days in Delhi and Oxford. He is the author of the play Sons of Babur, published by Rupa & Co., which has been staged, with Tom Alter in the lead role, at the Red Fort in Delhi.
Salman Khurshid replaces M. Veerappa Moily as the new Law Minister on 12th July, 2011 and will have an additional charge of Minority Affairs.
